Social Media: The Effects on Young Adults
When deciding which topic I would like to do research on, the first thing to come to mind was social media and it's effects. Being a user of social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat, I was curious to see what kind of behaviors or patterns may be caused by social media. We live in a society where social media is taking over and used everyday, so I think my research will be helpful, especially to young adults because in my opinion they use it the most. I'm going to research positive and negative effects of social media, look at some studies or research projects that have been conducted, and find some possible solutions or alternatives to using social media so often.
Alex, your findings should be a great resource for most of us, if not all of us! My guess is that when all is said and done, despite societal influence, the use of SM is a personal choice, so we can choose to be on it or not. Personally, I woke up one morning and decided I want all my SM accounts suspended & I've done just that, for months. I've done that more than once, one time for 11 months! But then it eventually feels weird, you start to miss it - or the people on their - and so I got back. I recently did it again, lasting 3 months and partly "on" again but haven't posted in all 3 months. So i think we can make the choice, albeit hard, tempting choice of staying away for forever or for sometime. Anyone can do that if chosen. Yes, it won't be easy but possible.
ReplyDeleteYes please do Alex Casazza I am looking forward to being enlightened by what your research brings about. "We live in a society where social media is taking over and used everyday, so I think my research will be helpful, especially to young adults". As technology continues to evolve communication in every sense of the word becomes more transmittable. Some of the positive and negative effects of this evolution in technology are obvious like cyber bulling, being able to connect with someone on the other end of the planet without meeting in person, or social media being a platform to raise awareness for humans who's basic human rights have been violated.
ReplyDeleteAlex Casazza,
ReplyDeleteI Think this is an execellent topic. Social media is so prevelent in young adult's lives that it can be scary to be unaware of the effects the usage of these sites have on us. Everything has become more transparent but it also makes it more dangerous to be online. People have been capable of hacking social media sites and that can be the most scary aspects of social media especially for young kids. Most of the time young kids and adults are unaware of how revealing some of the information they post online can be.
I also think it would be interesting to try and find the negative effects of brain development and social skills. The use of new media definitely hinders both of those.
