Social Networking

In today's society social networking can have great impacts on businesses. It's an easy and convenient method for consumer's to use their voice and let it be heard by the companies. In the article called, "Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting", it talks about sites like LinkedIn, that have made professional job recruiting an easier method to look for candidates. "Using LinkedIn, Steckerl says he can scout a group of job candidates in just half an hour". This site has made searching for professional candidates that fit the description recruiters are looking for, an extremely quick process. It also reduces the amount of resumes and candidates that apply that don't qualify for the position they need, because each LinkedIn profile has a space where they put their qualifications, achievements and experience. Recruiters can look at a candidates profile and determine whether or not they qualify based on what they have written on their page.
Of course there is a dark side to social networking. In the article, "Antisocial Networking?', it stated "Pew Research Center found that half of American teenagers (ages 12-17), send 50 or more text messages a day and one third send more than 100." There is concern that these social networking technologies can affect a child's intellectual development. Also there are social repercussions that can occur due to social interactions like cyber bullying or inappropriate photos being shared to people that were never intended to be seen by. In my opinion, with any type of technology, there should be a healthy limit on how much time is spent on any social networking. These types of applications and sites can be used for educational, information purposes and can make positive impacts on society. But when used in dangerous or irresponsible ways, it can be harmful to users and cause problems that may have permanent impacts.

  1. I agree 100% with the first statement you made "In today's society social networking can have great impacts on businesses". I created 2 online businesses and if it wasn't for social media networking I wouldn't have been able too.
